At Lightnin RV Rentals in Metro Atlanta, we believe camping can be both comfortable and environmentally friendly. In fact, preserving the ecosystem is as simple as following these six basic steps. Our goal is to help you “Leave No Trace” while enjoying the great outdoors.
1. Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints.
Essentially, the goal of camping should be: leave it as you found it. Hike, bike, and explore to your heart’s content, but do not remove natural elements from their environment. And don’t damage the landscape or leave behind a trail of litter.
2. Plan ahead.
Planning out your camping goals and adventures will help you enjoy your trip while minimizing damage to the land. By preparing for emergencies, familiarizing yourself with state and national park regulations, and utilizing a map, you can significantly reduce your impact on the environment. Plus, planning ahead will help ensure your group is both safe and having fun.
3. Pack it in, pack it out.
Everything you take with you should also return with you. When you leave your campsite, there should be no trash, waste, or camping gear left behind.
4. Camp on durable surfaces.
If you are camping in an RV park, this isn’t much of a problem. But when camping off the grid, it is important to park on a durable surface made of rock, dirt, gravel, or sand. Parking in vegetated, wet, or marshy areas can leave lasting damage to the land. And, when possible, restrict hiking and biking to durable surfaces as well.
5. Practice fire safety.
Campfires are an essential part of camping, but large bonfires are completely unnecessary. When camping, build small fires for cooking, and be sure to put them out completely before walking away. Also, plan to use a fire ring or pan whenever possible to reduce the risk of sparking a wildfire.
6. Respect others.
The outdoors belong to everyone, including other campers and the animals that live there. Therefore, enjoy wildlife from a distance, but do not feed, touch, or bother them. And give your fellow campers the quiet space they deserve!
